On Sep. 6-7, the Bakersfield High School football teams took the win here at home.
The freshmen team started the Drillers’ three-game win streak by beating the Mustangs 48-14.
For the JV team, it started as a tie between in the first quarter at 6-6, but the Drillers ended the quarter one at 22-6. During the second quarter, the game started getting more competitive. The Mustangs came close to scoring a touchdown, but the Drillers were making it difficult for them as they defended their score. The Drillers ended the second quarter with 30-6.
The varsity crowd began to fill the stands during halftime, increasing the energy of the game. In the Driller student section, the Drill Crew was handing out free hotdogs, glasses, and leis.
Neither team scored again until the fourth quarter. The JV Drillers finished the game 38-14.
The varsity game was very close; the game was neck-and-neck. Towards the end of quarter four, fans started leaving. With mostly empty stands, the varsity Drillers made the winning score of 28-27 in the last moments of the game.
