After eight and a half years, Gypsy Rose Anderson, formally known as Gypsy Rose Blanchard, has been released from prison.
Gypsy, now in Louisiana, was housed in the Chillicothe Correctional Center prison in Missouri for the last several years after being charged with the second-degree murder of her mother Dee-Dee Blanchard.
Where is Anderson now?
Even though Anderson is freshly out of prison, she already has a Lifetime docuseries, which premiered January 5, and an e-book, released January 9, alongside it.
Anderson comes out of prison with a completely different life. She is said to now be married, healthy, and her own person.
Anderson and her husband, Ryan Anderson, are now doing a press tour for her series and book. Anderson and her husband have been seen on shows such as “Good Morning America” and “The View.” The couple is receiving a multitude of hate due to Anderson’s early release. They continue to be positive through the hate that they receive via Instagram and other social media platforms.
Anderson’s upbringing
Gypsy is a victim of Munchausen by Proxy. This is a mental illness in the form of child abuse where a caretaker, usually a mother, fakes or causes symptoms to make their child look ill. For years Anderson was forced to be confined to a wheelchair and to fake other ailments on behalf of Blanchard. Anderson was given many supplements and treatments to “help” cure her illnesses. However, these supplements and treatments only worsened her once-healthy body.
Anderson was thought/perceived to have Leukemia, Muscular Dystrophy, and, Epilepsy as well as many other ailments. She was never formally diagnosed with these illnesses but Blanchard convinced herself and everyone in their community that Anderson was severely ill. Throughout Blanchard’s life as a mother, she took Anderson to many doctors. They were never fully convinced of all of the illnesses due to the supposed loss of Anderson’s medical records in Hurricane Katrina.
On June 9, 2015, Blanchard was pronounced dead after being found in her Springfield, Missouri home. Gypsy was nowhere to be found, however, her wheelchair was left in the home.
Anderson’s sentencing
Gypsy was charged with second-degree murder after being an accomplice of Nicholas Godejohn in the case of killing Dee-Dee Blanchard, Gypsy’s mother. Anderson was sentenced to 10 years in 2016 and Godejohn was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole. Though the details of this case are gory, there is a backing to this murder. The evidence in the case was very carefully kept.
This case had most every type of evidence. There were a myriad of emails and texts as well as physical evidence. One piece of evidence being a kitchen knife that was sent in the mail to Godejohn’s home in Wisconsin.
Anderson even went so far as to post on her and Blanchard’s shared Facebook, “That [explicative] is dead!” on June 14, 2015.Anderson thought that this was the only way out of her situation. She deeply regrets the entire ordeal.
