East and southeast Bakersfield residents are going to be presented with the chance to participate in a loan-to-own electric bicycle program sponsored by Bike Bakersfield.
Bike Bakersfield is a non-profit organization that was established in 2005 by Bob Smith, a member of the Bakersfield City Council and current Vice President of the program.
Since Bike Bakersfield was founded, they have been working to promote active transportation by offering solutions to the universal challenges of health, livability, and the environment.
For one year, participants of the program will be eligible to receive safety equipment and accessories, as well as a free electric bike. They will be required to document a minimum of 30 miles per week and attend group rides and workshops to keep the equipment.
To get the program underway, Bike Bakersfield will be hosting a Smart Cycling class on Feb. 24 and 25, according to KGET. You must register to attend, so spots can be reserved on the Bike Bakersfield website.
