BHS athletes are recognized at the 2024 Spring Sports Awards

Bakersfield High School student-athletes were recognized for their achievements during the spring season on May 20. 

The event was focused on celebrating the extraordinary efforts Drillers showed throughout the season, including as teens represented BHS at several state and regional competitions.

Tamara Maiocco started by recognizing the boys’ doubles team in tennis, as Malcolm Hess and Maddox Dumatrait placed in the top eight of the Central section. She also congratulated swimmer Katelyn Kaff for qualifying for state as a freshman. 

Maoicco honored nine track runners on stage for missing their prom to “tear it up on the track.”

The track athletes recognized for this sacrifice included:

-Jalen Ford

-La Sheau Hayden

-Abby Varner

-Kyndall Hannible

-Kalaya Miller

-Brison Abbott

-Brenton Brown

-Isaiah Richard

-Sean Smith

The award ceremony continued with the coaches presenting MVP awards to their respective players.

The Most Valuable Players (MVPs) include:

-Damieon Navarro, freshman baseball

-Educardo Silva, JV baseball

-Wyatt Caid, varsity baseball

-Ethan Irvine, boy’s golf

-Angelina Baltazar, freshman softball

-Jasmine Gore, JV softball

-Aniyah Gordon, varsity softball

-Logan Spurlock, JV boy’s tennis

-Maddox Dumatrait, varsity boy’s tennis

-Malcolm Hess, varsity boy’s tennis

-Abigail Varner, track and field

-Kyndall Hannible, track and field

Some sports, such as swim, chose to give additional awards for notable achievements. 

Swim awards were given to Taylor Hemingway and Everette Hess, JV swim for having the highest scored points throughout the season; Eagan Sauter and Katie Kaff received the awards for accumulating the most points on varsity. 

The Dive Award was given to Andy Young.

Katelyn Kaff, a freshman, was also awarded for setting a new record at a recent varsity swim meet. She set a new record for 100 IM, first 200 IM, and Freestyle breaststroke.
