On August 23, Sabrina Carpenter released her hit album “Short n’ Sweet.” The album currently has more than one billion streams on digital music platforms.
The charttopper saw more than half of the songs ranked in the top 20 most played songs on Spotify as of Sep. 2, and two remain in the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100 listing on Sep. 3.
“Short n’ Sweet” is her sixth album, and the pop mix includes a total of 12 tracks. The album lasts a total of 36 minutes.
Carpenter sings about her brief relationships and how they have shaped her the most.
The hits
My favorite song on the album is “Taste,” a breakup song about how “she leaves quite an impression” and how her ex will never forget her even if he’s moved on. The music video stars both Carpenter and Jenna Ortega; they are fighting at the beginning of the video, but in the end, they come together at the ex’s funeral to realize he was the problem. The beat to the song was so fun to listen to, and I enjoyed the message written in the lyrics.
My second favorite song on Short n’ Sweet is “Espresso.” The song was originally released as a single to announce the album back in April. It has since been a hit with 1,180,027,105 plays on Spotify as of Sep. 3, making it her most streamed song. “Espresso” is about how her ex won’t stop thinking about her and how she is the “espresso” keeping him up at night.
My third favorite song is “Coincidence.” The title pretty much sums up what the song is about. Carpenter sings about how she does not think her ex’s actions were a coincidence. The beat to the song had such a vibe, and I really enjoyed the overall feel to the song. The chorus is so catchy and upbeat.
The misses
My least favorite song on the album is “Slim Pickins.” The song was slower paced. The bridge in the song did not really stand out to me. Carpenter sings about how there are very few boyfriend options and how they are hard to find.
My second least favorite song was “Bed Chem.” The song was very mediocre. It was not bad, but it definitely would not be one that I add to my playlist. This song is about how she knows her and her ex’s have “really good bad chemistry.”
My third least favorite song was “Don’t Smile.” This song closed the album. It wasn’t a bad song, but I was expecting the album to close with a more fast paced and exciting song because the album opened with such upbeat songs. “Don’t Smile” is about how she thinks her ex’s need to not smile and “cry because it’s over.”
Overall, I really enjoyed listening to “Short n’ Sweet.” The album’s vibe was great, and most of the songs were really good. My only critique of the overall album is that some of the songs sounded the same. This album definitely has some skips, but it also has some great songs. I would recommend you go listen to “Short n’ Sweet.”
My final rating: ★★★★
