Driller Wrestling held its annual kickoff dinner fundraiser on November 2. The community was invited to enjoy food, raffles, and the opportunity to listen to a guest speaker in the BHS cafeteria.
It is estimated that 150-200 people attended, but 230 tickets had been sold.
The team sold tickets for $10, and it included a barbeque dinner and dessert. Attendees notably enjoyed the pulled pork donated by Thomas Woods. The dinner itself was served by the Driller athletes.
Attendees had the chance to join a raffle to win individual prizes and themed baskets; some of the donated items included Milwaukee power tools, Christmas-themed baskets, and gift card sets. The raffle prizes were donated by the Driller Wrestling parents.
Pastor Andrew Spradlin, a BHS alumnus, led the attendees in prayer before the dinner was served, specifically blessing the food being served and the event that was beginning. Spradlin was a State Championship Runner-Up and is now a co-senior Pastor of Valley Baptist Church.
Tim Box, a BHS alumnus, appeared as a guest speaker. Box is a two-time State Placer, three-time High School All-American, and is now the head wrestling coach for Palomar Community College
and USA Beach Wrestling. Box spoke on the lessons he learned as an athlete, and explained how his experiences have helped him develop as an individual.
Overall, the night was a success for Driller Wrestling. The team raised approximately $4300 from the event according to Adam Fierro, the varsity coach.
