During the academic year, schools consistently provide teens with accessible meals. However, many teens are left wondering where they will get their next meal during summer if they are not attending summer school.
Kern County local businesses, churches, schools, and non-profits are working to ensure that youths stay fed.
Teens and parents of young children are encouraged to check out the resources available to help.
Some of the locations that offer food to youths at no cost include:
- Lunch at the Library. This event is for ages 2 through 18.
- St. Paul’s Episcopal Church holds a food bank on Mondays at 10 a.m.
- Golden Empire Gleaners.
- First Congregational Church Food Pantry distributes supplies on Wednesdays.
- St. Vincent de Paul Bakersfield Homeless Center.
The Kern County Superintendent of Schools can help connect students and their families with programs that can help. Learn more on the KCSOS website.
Anyone struggling with food insecurity can call 2-1-1 or check online for assistance.
