Bakersfield High School’s annual Homecoming Spirit Week kicks off on October 14. This year’s Homecoming theme is Driller Animated Story.
Each graduating class has chosen “Rio” (Class of 2028), “The Lorax” (Class of 2027), “Toy Story” (Class of 2026), and “Despicable Me” (Class of 2025) for their daily theme and Homecoming game performance.
Throughout the week, Drillers are invited to help build their graduating class’s Homecoming float. Float building will take place around the IA building Monday through Thursday from 5 pm-9 pm. Drillers can check with their class advisor or in the SAB to find out where their class is meeting for float building.
Follow it all up with the Blue and White Steal the Night Black Light Homecoming dance on Oct. 19 in the gym from 7:30 p.m.-10 p.m.
There will also be games and music every day at lunch. Look out for BHS’s buildings to be decorated in each class theme this year!
Monday 10/14: Amazon Adventure Day
Monday’s theme is inspired by the Freshman class float theme, “Rio.”
Dress up in animal print, costume cargo pants/shorts, or any neutral colors such as forest green and khaki. You can also accessorize with binoculars, safari vests, and hats.
Drillers can also go the alternative route and dress like one of the iconic film’s birds; for this look, students should think colorful and featherful.
Safari animal costumes and pajamas would be a fun way to dress up and stay comfy!
Tuesday 10/15: Truffela Tree Tuesday
Day two of Spirit Week is based on the sophomore class theme “The Lorax.”
Wear all things with bright colors and fuzzy. Amazon has a wide variety of Lorax merchandise to fit the theme, or Drillers can hit their nearest Party City to put together their own outfits.
You can also dress up as your favorite character such as the Lorax, Ted, Mr.O, and Once-ler!
Wednesday 10/16: Woody’s Wild West Wednesday!
The junior class animated movie is “Toy Story!”
Wear your western outfits and dress like Woody and Andy on Wednesday. You can also dress up as your favorite character like Buzz, Rex, or your favorite alien!
Thursday 10/17: Minion Madness Day!
The Senior class animated movie theme is “Despicable Me.”
Dress up as a minion, and rock some yellow and overalls!
Friday 10/18: Blue and White Day
The last and biggest day of Homecoming spirit week is reserved for everyone to show off their Driller spirit.
Drillers are encouraged to wear blue and white, BHS merch, or their Homecoming shirt. Check out the student store for BHS apparel options.
