Drillers attending summer school in 2025 can expect to see a new schedule; both the length of each school day and the semesters have changed.
Summer school will no longer run from June through July. Under the new schedule, both semesters will take place during June.
To accommodate the shorter semesters, students can expect slightly longer school days. Students can expect classes to run from 7:15 a.m. to 2:10 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Summer school will still include two designated break times throughout the day; there will be a 15-minute break and a 30-minute lunch period.
The first semester will begin June 2 and end June 13, essentially lasting 10 days. The second semester will begin the following week, and it will run from June 16 through June 27; the second term will include approximately 9 days. Students are reminded that there will be no class on June 19, also known as Juneteenth, as the Kern High School District is participating in the holiday observance.
Reminder: The counseling office is currently finishing students’ 4-year plans. The placement of students for summer school classes is determined based on what requirements individual students most need. Additionally, students are allowed one absence per semester of summer school before being dropped from the program.
While previous summer terms included courses such as English, mathematics, and other core classes, student needs will determine what courses are needed for the upcoming summer term.
