Bakersfield High Schools PTSO is hosting the first annual “Runnin’ To The Rig” 5k run and 2k walk on Feb. 1.
Community members are invited to walk or run a historic loop around campus that allows you to see Bakersfield High School from a new perspective, all while being a part of the Driller community and raising funds that will ultimately help campus programs.
Medals will be given after the race at Griffith Field. Participants will receive water and snacks, and they will have the opportunity to snag a few selfies.
According to Joe Nahama, a PTSO board member, all money and funds raised will go to BHS PTSO.
Nahama explained that some of the funds they receive will be used to pay for the PTSO online fundraising platforms. These fundraising platforms will benefit programs by allowing them to fundraise and receive 100% of the money while other websites would require programs to pay them a share of the funds raised.
Other uses of the money may include financial contributions to campus programs or funding other future events.
“PTSO gives grants to BHS clubs and teams. For example, we raised $10,000 that we are distributing to the 16 clubs/teams that worked the concession booth during the 2024 football games,” Nahama wrote.
