Security cameras are installed above the perimeter fence of what is officially known as a vocational skills education centre in Dabancheng, in Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region, China September 4, 2018. This centre, situated between regional capital Urumqi and tourist spot Turpan, is among the largest known ones, and was still undergoing extensive construction and expansion at the time the photo was taken. We are told to learn our past mistakes so history doesn’t repeat itself.

Today in China, another genecide is taking place that is extremely similar to the one that took place in 1941, the Holocaust.

Over 1 million Uighur Muslims are held captive in concentration camps that strip away any sense of huminatilty they have. In Xinjiang concentration camps, Muslim women are forced to remove their hijab, a form of head coving used for modesty. The workers in the camp demand the prisoners eat pork and drink alcohol on a regular basis, which is strictly forbidden within their religion (Sharman, 2019). The prisoners are also forced into labor. If they don’t oblige to these demands they get severely punished, as if what they are going through isn’t bad enough.

The people that go so far to torture so many innocent Muslim lives, even seperate young children from their parents. They seem to believe that taking the children away from their loved ones will rid the children of any thought that Islam is not evil. Taking children from their parents wasn’t enough for them, they have women take birth control to make sure they do not reproduce to spread more their religion, Islam. It is clear that innocent Uighurs Muslims are being prosecuted and their basic human rights are being revoked. Muslims are forced to denounce their religion and conform their loyalty to the chinese government and religious practices. They are forced to recite the Chinese national anthem and learn the Chinese language.

The Chinese government is responsible for these Xinjiang concentration camps and officially calls them “re-education camps” and “Vocational Education” camps. China claims that these camps are a way to provide people with vocational training that will help them find jobs. However, since the majority of the detainees are Uighur Muslims, it is clear that this is actually an attempt at clearing the religion of Islam from China (BBC, 2020).

This has been going on since 2017 and it has not been mentioned or broadcasted to the extent it should be.  More light needs to be shed on this subject of abusing innocents because the more the information is shared, the more of a chance these blameless Muslims are freed and protected.
